Our next opponents: Sporting Gijón

We play Sporting in Asturias, with their coach Manolo Sánchez needing a win to keep his job

Villarreal hope to continue their unbeaten streak Sunday morning at the Molinon, while Sporting Gijon is aiming for a home win to kickstart their season. The Asturians have only won once in seven matches--a 2-1 home win over Alcorcón--and coach Manolo Sanchez has been given an ultimatum: win against Villarreal or else.

Sporting are hoping for a big crowd for this match, with home supporters able to buy extra tickets at reduced prices.

Asturias Mundial. El Sporting retira el 'Día del Club' para recibir al Villarreal

Not only were two clubs both relegated last year, but thoughts of Manolo Preciado--legend as a Gijon coach, passed away immediately after being named to head Villarreal--will be paramount.

Last year Villarreal won this fixture in the Primera.....as it turned out, our last win in a season when we needed one more point to survive. These two teams have played several controversial matches in recent years, with--shall we say--questionable refereeing decisions resulting in penalties in favor of Villarreal one time, Sporting another. Who knows, maybe the Segunda officiating will be better :)
