Villarreal takes on Everton FC today in Liverpool, England. It should be our best test of the preseason ahead of the Champions League play-off against Odense BK in a fortnight.
Twenty-three players have made the trip:
Goalkeepers: Diego López & César.
Defenders: Mario, Mano, Zapata, Musacchio, Gonzalo, Catalá, Dervite, Joan Oriol & Marchena.
Midfielders: Wakaso, Senna, Marcos Gullón, Bruno, Valero, Cani, Camuñas & Hernán Pérez.
Strikers: Bordas, Ruben, Nilmar & Rossi.
Three B team players are in the squad: defenders Mano and Dorian Dervite, along with midfielder Marcos Gullón. Gullón is the biggest surprise not to make the A team, so look for him to make the most of his opportunities in England. Bordas does fit the fourth striker role, but Pérez also can play there. I think it's a motivational technique.
The only A team player to miss out is Ángel, still on the mend. He expects to be healthy for the Elche friendly, our last match before traveling to Denmark. So I expect Mario to start against Odense, but opposite who?
Hopefully this weekend's friendlies sort out the left back shuffle. Endavant Villarreal!
