Villarreal Searching in Brazil

As Kqql has noted over the last couple of days, Villarreal are looking seriously at two players from Brazil - who just so happen to fit our main needs: central midfielder and a striker.

The first man on the list is 25-year-old striker Nilmar, who currently plays for Internacional. He has Portuguese roots, so hopefully an EU passport would not be a problem. He signed with Lyon a few years back, and made 32 appearances. Eventually he found himself back in Brazil, first with Corinthians, and now back with his earlier club, Internacional. He has made eight national team appearances for Brazil, and has most recently been called up for World Cup qualifiers in May and the Confederations Cup. According to El Periodico Mediterraneo, he has a reputation for being a good teammate. Villarreal are reputedly ready to lodge a 12m euro bid for his services, which is huge by Villarreal's standards.

The other potential signing is Elias, a 24-year-old midfielder who plays for Corinthians. Elias plays primarily on the right, but is capable of shifting to the middle, and has been compared favorably with Villarreal-man Marcos Senna. He has previously been linked with Roma and Fiorentina. According to goal.com, his rights are partly owned by an investment company, which could make things a bit complicated. The rumored bid for Elias is 6m euros.
