Villarreal B is very close to moving to "A" - Segunda A, that is. Traveling to the Lorca match, they had a 1-0 lead. Lorca scored first, but Joan Tomas scored in response for Villarreal, effectively put the match away. At that point the score was 1-2, and Joan Tomas scored again near the end of the match to take it to 1-3. A cheap penalty allowed Lorca to score a second, but Villarreal comfortably held on to a 2-3 aggregate victory. That means that now they will face either Alcorcón or Real Jaen in the final advancement round. They avoid the strong Basque side Real Union Irun. Unfortunately, though, they may be without keeper Juan Carlos, though. The penalty in the final minutes of the Lorca match was called against him (allegedly somewhat cheaply), and he picked up his fifth yellow card for the season. That means that unless he gets the yellow card overturned, he will miss the first match.
- Rumors are that Mati Fernandez will be going out on loan. Potential suitors include Racing Santander and Valladolid.
- Villarreal have allegedly offered 10m euros for Almeria's Alvaro Negredo. Madrid apparently have a buyback clause in his contract, so negotiations (if they are truly ongoing) could be complicated. Negredo, 24 years old, had a great year with Almeria this past year, scoring 19 times.
