2009-2010 Copa del Rey Draw

A number of people have already commented on it, but Villarreal was drawn against Celta de Vigo for the next round of the Copa del Rey, a significantly easier task (I hope) compared to the previously-rumored Valencia matchup. Villarreal B beat Celta 0-2 November 21st, so the club should have a pretty good idea of what the Galician side will bring to the table. Here is the complete draw, along with matchups for the quarter- and semi-final rounds of the Copa:

1/8 Finals (to be played January 6th and 13th):

1) Hércules CF SAD - Club Atlético Osasuna
2) RC Celta de Vigo SAD - Villarreal CF SAD
3) F.C. Barcelona - Sevilla FC SAD
4) RC Recreativo de Huelva SAD - Club Atlético de Madrid SAD
5) Málaga CF SAD - Getafe CF SAD
6) RCD Mallorca SAD - Rayo Vallecano de Madrid SAD
7) Real Racing Club de Santander SAD - CD Alcorcón
8) Valencia C.F. SAD - R.C. Deportivo de La Coruña SAD

1/4 Finals (to be played January 20th and 27th):

A) Valencia/Depor (8) – Barca/Sevilla (3)

B) Mallorca/Rayo Vallecano (6) – Málaga/Getafe (5)

C) Racing/Alcorcón (7) – Hércules/Osasuna (1)

D) Recre/Atlético (4) – Celta/Villarreal (2)

1/2 Finals (to be played February 3rd and 10th):

(Recre/Atlético)/(Celta/Villarreal) (D) vs. (Racing/Alcorcón)/(Hércules/Osasuna) (C)

(Valencia/Depor)/(Barca/Sevilla) (A) vs. (Mallorca/Rayo Vallecano)/(Málaga/Getafe) (B)

Villarreal definitely has a very enviable draw, one that should give them a strong chance of advancing to the final. If nothing else, they avoid the likes of Barcelona, Sevilla, and Valencia before a potential finals date. But don't get me wrong - the way this season has gone, the Celta match is sure to be a challenge, so we really can't realistically look much further than that at the moment.
