A very entertaining game, unfortunately my stream wasn't so reliable so I couldn't conduct a live blog.
Starting XI : Viera, Javi Venta, Fuentes, Godin, Bruno, Edmilson, Eguren, Mati, Pires, Ibagaza, Guille
Subs at half time were Cygan for Fuentes and Llorente for Ibagaza.
So a good win for Villarreal, we took an early lead through Diego Godin who powered home a header from an Ariel Ibagaza corner in the 7th minute. We dominated for a period with both Matias and Guille going close. We withstood a period of pressure from Zaragoza before half time with Javi Venta making 2 vital clearances and went in at the break 1 up. Pellegrini was playing 4-5-1 with Ibagaza in behind Guille and Mati and Pires on the wings. Edmilson and Eguren were excellent once again. The midfield looked very good so much so that Senna and Cazorla will have a bit of work to do if they want to regain there places. The game went into a lull after the break and a lapse in concentration in the 65th minute allowed Diego Milito to sneak in an equaliser. We upped our game once again and Joseba Llorente popped up with the winner with 10 minutes to play, it was a lovely finish. The game saw the return of Fabricio Fuentes after a knee ligament injury and also a very capable display by Bruno at left back.
So overall it was quite an impressive performance, I can't stress how good the midfield looked, Edmilson has fitted right in and the same can be said for Ibagaza. Mati looked impressive also and as Alex said in a comment on the previous post he was on fire for stages during the game. Coming away from this game I can only say that I'm even more excited about the season coming up. That midfield was so impressive!
Endavant Villarreal!
