Player Profile : Robert Pires

The 35 year old Frenchman needs no introduction, signed from Arsenal on a free transfer following the 2006 Champions League final he has fitted seamlessly into the team. His first season was marred by a knee ligament injury picked up in preseason and he missed the majority of the campaign. He really came into his own during his second term with Villarreal, nailing down a starting place on the left wing and was key to Pellegrini's plans as Villarreal finished second. With his quick feet and eye for both a pass and a goal Pires has become a favourite at El Madrigal and he himself has stated how much he loves the atmosphere at the club. Now entering the twilight of his career it is unlikely that Pires will play as many games but his experience and leadership qualities will surely come into play in the forthcoming season.
