Rumours (unconfirmed I may add) are circulating that we have made a successful bid for Fluminense centre half Thiago Silva. It's supposedly around 10 Million Euros and if it is indeed true then we would have beaten off some heavy competition.
"According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Villareal have won the auction for 24 year old defender Thiago Silva, by offering around 10 million euros. Now AC Milan, that was considered interested in the brazilian player, will probably swoop on Sao Paulo's Miranda or on Diego Godin, actually at Villareal." Link
So the source is said to be the Italian sports daily La Gazzetta dello Sport. A respectable enough source but we shall see in the coming hours if there is any truth to this rumour. If it turns out to be legit then I will be delighted, Silva is a very highly rated centre half.
According to Goal.com there has been some sort of initial agreement made between us and the Brazilian club. If true then is now up to Silva himself, the article implies that he is holding out for a move to either AC or Inter Milan. However with Milan having all their non-EU slots full and Inter's back line looking very formidable (partly due to the resurgence of Walter Samuel) then the offers might not come for him. There are sure to be more twists to this tale so stay tuned.
