Three matches left in the regular season after this weekend, and Villarreal’s B team is looking to make a strong push to carry them through the playoffs and into the Segunda, hopefully.
Mallorca (64 points)look to have wrapped up first place—a six point lead with four matches left, owning the tiebreak, and having lost only four times all season. But, Villarreal (58 points) can hope. They have four matches, they realistically must win all of them, and the first, and perhaps the toughest, is home tomorrow (9AM West Coast time) against Badalona, sixth in the table themselves. They don’t score much, they don’t concede a lot either.
You can watch the match on Villarreal TV; click on the blinking “Live” button at the top right.
Mallorca host Olot, so should win that; Elche (57 points) are away to Valencia’s B team (46 points) so that’ll be a toughie; fourth-placed Cornella (53) host Perelada, and need a win to keep away form the chasing bunch (six teams within seven points of them).
A win would pretty much ensure the mini-submarine would make it into the playoffs, but finishing second in the group would ensure they play a fourth-placed team in the first playoff round, which could be helpful.
I’ll be back tomorrow night after all the Segunda B action is concluded with an update on standings in all four groups.
Meanwhile, you can check out some fine goals from our cantera players:
Endavant Villarreal!!
