Mario Mandzukic: sights set on Spain.

Three solid teams and the Republic of Ireland. Group C at Euro 2012 has gone to form, with goal difference potentially a significant issue. Will Italy again fail to advance beyond the group stage at a major competition? Group C standings: Spain 4, Croatia 4, Italy 2, Ireland 0.

Italy vs. Ireland, 2:45 pm ET (ESPN2)

The azzurri needs to better the Croats' 3-1 win over Ireland, but even that may not be enough. A 2-2 draw in the other match would put Italy out, based on the three-way goals scored tiebreaker. Exactly how it went down at Euro 2004, with Denmark and Sweden playing anti-football once passage was secured. Let's hope for better sportsmanship this time around.

Croatia vs. Spain, 2:45 pm ET (ESPN)

If the Croats play like they can, this could be the match of the group stage, if not the tournament. Mario Mandzukic and Nikica Jelavic are humming up front, but the back four will be tested by La Roja. David Silva is quite a player, in case you didn't know. And even Fernando Torres can find the back of the net, but he won't be marked by a mid-table Championship center back today. A mouthwatering tie.
