Nilmar heading back to Brazil, but no Casemiro in the deal
It's being reported by numerous Brazilian outlets that Sao Paolo and Villarreal have reached an agreement for the transfer of Nilmar to the Brazilian side. An investment fund will pay Villarreal €8 million, and young midfielder Casemiro becomes a member of the Yellow Submarine.
We caution the deal is not official, but it's believed the clubs have agreed and the deal is only awaiting agreement between Nilmar and Sao Paolo, which is not expected to be a problem. (In fact, I am seeing a tweet from a Sao Paolo fan that Nilmar has signed a deal for three seasons, is expected to arrive on Wednesday for his physical tests and may play in their game on Sunday)
UPDATE (1/23 6:30 AM EST): Late last night it was reported Sao Paolo has refused to include Casemiro, whom they feel is worth more than the €10m. Luis Fabiano had also been mentioned but never seriously, and we've heard nothing more about Wellington. So apparently the deal is cash-only; we're not sure if it's more than €8m, or how the deal is structured. According to EPM Villarreal is carefully reviewing the payment guarantees to make sure they are sufficient. If we hear anything else, we'll provide a new update.

If this deal goes through...
You think the money made will be used on Gio Dos Santos? Anyone have any updates on Gio Dos Santos by the way?
We know he wants to come to Spain
If he went to Racing, you’d think he would come here. But Ali supposedly had millions at that time.
He’s not playing at Tottenham; that’s all we know. Still flying around for El Tri, which has a friendly on Wednesday. Wonder if he’ll be allowed to feature?

I hope so.
Relatedly, does anyone have an inkling of what we might be doing with our glut of central midfielders? I count Camunas, De Guzman, Borja Valero, Castellani, and Casemiro (to say nothing of Dos Santos, Perez, Cani or Senna) as players whose primary role might best be described as “central attacking midfielder.”
Yet our typical 4-4-2 formation uses not a single man in this role.
midfielders, etc.
None of us know why we signed Camuñas, frankly, and I don’t see him having much role going forward. Senna will be retiring in all likelihood after this year, and Cani might well be moved on, I suspect, if we want to go with youth. He’s looking like the odd man out to me in this list.
Assuming everyone else stays, I see:
Bruno and (ultimately) Casemiro in the doble pivote, with Castellani as backup (and Gullon in B team could be a backup for Bruno)
Borja on one wing
Perez/Montero on the other
De Guzman—I still am not sure how he fits in
Gio (if he comes)would play as a second striker rather than attacking midfielder
I think and hope we can rule out playing defenders in the doble pivote going forward
Endavant Villarreal!!
EPM says no Casemiro
Make of it what you will.

And that we want Gio++
The Mexican is not the striking solution. Another player desired.

I'm not happy if no Casemiro
I was getting very excited about him.

Lizarraga usually has a pretty good knowledge of what is going on
but I’d find it hard to believe we would get enough cash from Sao Paolo to make the deal work without Casemiro?

Well, depends on how you value Nilmar.
To get 8 million + a player valued at 10 million means he is worth more now than he was when we bought him. Or close to equal, if Casemiro is worth only half that.
And we know the knee operations had to have some impact. I figured that Llaneza was able to use the merchandising prospects as leverage. But to be honest, 10 million flat would be fine by me. Time to reinvest.

and don't forget the Colombian striker Jackson
he is another possibility if Gio’s price tag is too great. However, Gio (according to transfermarkt) would qualify for an EU spot since he can claim Spanish ancestry through his parents; Jackson would not. Something to keep in mind.
Castellani’s promotion to the first team means he and Zapata (I believe) are taking up two of the three “foreign” spots we’re allowed, and Nilmar’s departure would free up one which would be claimed by Casemiro, presumably. If he comes.
Endavant Villarreal!!
Jackson Martinez
appears to be the desired replacement for Nilmar.

nilmar has been useless this season. 8mil just isn't enough to get a quality striker for replacement.
but right now it seems that anyone could do better.
I don't get people in here.
I think that Gio sucks… He was failure in Barca and Tottenham.
Stay away from him…

I don't disagree re: attitude
But how can you blame him for not settling at Barca? Neither did David Villa, and who knows if even Rossi would have.
And the English game is very different. Gio is just not strong enough. Silva is the big exception to the rule there.

Gio did OK at Santander
the problem there was Santander’s crooked owner. You can’t blame him for that one—if Racing had any real money they would have made the loan deal permanent
If we come out of this with Jackson and Gio to replace Nilmar, that’s not too bad. But I’d like to get more than €8m for him.
Endavant Villarreal!!
rumor is that
Inter will play 15mill. for Casemiro, so that’s why they don’t want to include him in the deal…
But hey… only rumors…
Just happy that things are happening, and we are sending Nilmar on his way, with a profit for us… didn’t we pay 11mill for him?

some newspaper suggested that
it’s a record-breaking 15M, it was also quoted by VillarrealUSA, but that’s from the old site at all
what we paid for Nilmar?
yes, i’m remembering record-breaking but no firm figure

AS reported 12m euros
when Nilmar signed in 2009 although in their guide for this season it has risen to 14m euros.
nilmar's la liga stats
matches – goals – assists – minutes per goal – minutes
73 – 24 – 11 – 223 – 5355
minutes per goal
rossi 186
negredo 167
soldado 145
marco ruben 271 (this season 184)
aguero 179
messi 105
f. llorente 212
i know this doesn’t tell that much. for example when compared to soldado and negredo who play as a lone strikers.
but for me 223 seems pretty low for a 12-15m signing, right?

yes, that's right
But if you look at the first half of last season, until he had his surgery, he was great. Maybe even better than Rossi, or at least as good. Villarreal was playing a very counterattacking style at times and he flourished in that. And if I recall he was matching Rossi goal for goal-his finishing was excellent.
Once he had that first surgery, he really didn’t do a lot except against Bayer Leverkusen, where he came off the bench to score two goals. And this year, he’s struggled. Part of it is Rossi being out, sure: Rossi is a player who can get the ball slightly inside the attacking half, draw defenders and let Nilmar use his speed to run into space, while Ruben is not. But even when Rossi was OK Nilmar was finding it hard to get loose and get good shots on goal the way he did last year.
Assuming the deal goes ahead and he’s sold on, I don’t think he’ll be viewed as a colossal bust at Villarreal, but more as a signing that promised more than it ultimately delivered.
Endavant Villarreal!!
He was great for a winning side.
Doesn’t have the battling attitude we need right now, though. I think he’d do great at a “big” club that wins a lot, because he’d just be expected to score goals and nothing else. Asking him to track back, play with his back to goal, etc. was not in his skill set.
Wonder if it has to do with the Brazilian happy-go-lucky attitude…

yeah, those stats
are going to be skewed a bit because he had a small period of time where he was fantastic. if you knock that one period out of the equation, i am guessing the numbers easily surpass 300m/g.
Endavant Villarreal!
Interesting tidbit on Welington
Atleti owns 25% of his rights. So they wouldn’t mind if he moves instead of Casemiro. But it looks like no Sao Paolo player is coming in return.

Nilmar doesn´t want to go
and his agent claims that he has not been paid for three months.
http://www.elperiodicomediterraneo.com/noticias/deportes/ldquo-nilmar-no-quiere-volver-a-brasil-rdquo-dice-su-agente_713052.html
has not been paid, really?
that would explain a lot when considering how the team has been performing.
i’ve just always thought that sr. roig has these things in control.
