VIllarreal B- Alcoyano: squad for the trip and a brief preview

The first appearance of Florian Lejeune in the squad, and Kike Lopez returns from injury. On the downside, Airam, Mano, and Chiki Guerrero are all ailing, and Dorian Dervite is suspended as a result of his red card. Here's the team:

Goalkeepers: Mariño and Jorge.
Defenders: Pere, Carlos Tomás, Lejeune, Toño, Kiko and Jaume Costa.
Midfielders: Marcos Gullón, Fofo, Iriome, Llorente, Dutra, Nico and Pedro Vázquez.
Strikers: Kike López, Joselu and Lucas Porcar.

It's a fairly short trip to face fellow Valencian Community side CD Alcoyano, who play in a stadium even smaller than our own Mini Estadi. A Collao looks like a ground that time forgot, which is not totally a bad thing. Read about it here courtesy of the most excellent Estadios de Futból en España blog. I swear it reminds me of about half the grounds in the English lower divisions I visited nearly forty years ago!

They've joined the Segunda for the first time since 1969, but are off to a slow start with only two points from their first four matches. I can't say much about specific players, except to note last year in the Segunda B their leading goal scorers were a player from Equatorial Guinea, Raul Fabiani (11), and 27-year old Spaniard Gato, with 10. And their goalkeeper, 37-year old Maestro, presumably directs the defense.

Villarreal B will miss Airam, who has been in excellent goal-poaching mode to start the season, but Kike López's return should be helpful. And Lucas Porcar has been impressive up front, too. The back line has of course been the major problem for the B-boys. Hopefully Lejeune will strengthen things considerably, but the team also needs to work on communication among defenders and avoiding concentration lapses.

We probably won't be able to follow the game very well since it is at the same time as the Athletic match, but hopefully there will be a few Villarreal supporters willing to make the two hour trip down to Alcoy. Vamos mini-submarino!!!
