Preview: Villarreal - Hércules
After Europa League triumph and an open encounter in Santander, it's back to the grind at home to Hércules. The Alicante-based side has won just once away from home in La Liga, but what a victory: 0-2 in Camp Nou. Let's hope to avoid a repeat at El Madrigal.
Hércules CF suffers from the injury bug: key contributors Drenthe, Farinós (on loan to Villarreal way back in 2003), and Valdez will miss the match. Villarreal is without Ángel and Senna, but Bruno returns after serving a one-match sanction for picking up five yellow cards. That is seemingly the only way that Garrido will give him a rest.
Garrido's 18-man squad for the match:
Keepers: Diego López & Juan Carlos.
Defenders: Capdevila, Catalá, Cicinho, Gonzalo, Marchena, Mario & Musacchio.
Midfielders: Borja Valero, Bruno, Cani, Cazorla, Marcos Gullón & Wakaso.
Strikers: Nilmar, Rossi & Marco Ruben.
Only one change from the group that faced Racing: Bruno in for Cristóbal. Sadly, this is not a surprise based on the latter's performance in Santander. Another time, perhaps.
It will take a workmanlike effort to win our first Comunitat Valenciana derbi at home, having drawn with Valencia and lost to Levante. We have taken four points from two away matches, but teams do not park the bus as much in front of their own fans.
A different kind of challenge, but one that Garrido should have the squad up for. I'll say 3-0 to Villarreal, with a Rossi brace for good measure. Endavant Villarreal!

Hercules was a solid Segunda side for many years, so Villarreal has beaten the alicantinos only once in six tries at El Madrigal. I don’t think that statistic is very meaningful, however.

And in Paradas Romero, we have a very home-favoring ref:
30-13-9 record (over 4 years) for the home side, 8-1-2 this season.
On the flip side, he was the ref against Getafe. Bad memories.

It was not his fault Villarreal lost. As I recall Rossi was suspended in that match, so Villlarreal went 4231 and it was probably the 2nd worst game I saw. (1st being the Deportivo 0-1 Loss)
Also, a clear goal by Getafe was called off for non exitence offside.

Hopefully will get to watch this in the college bar tonight, nice double header with Valencia – Barca afterwards. Looking forward to seeing more of Wakaso whether from the start or from the bench. Good chance for us to narrow the gap with Valencia to one point! ENDAVANT!

A must-win match for us. We cannot afford to drop more points at home against the teams in the bottom half of the table.
My guess is Garrido will go with Gonzalo and Marchena in the back, Mario and Capdevila; the usual four in midfield, and Rossi and Nilmar.

Lunchtime report from Radio Nou suggests that Garrido will field his gala XI, that is the team you suggest, but held out the possibility of a surprise. Some of the team that play tonight will have to be rested on Saturday to be fresh for the trip to Leverkusen.

maybe rest Mario and bring in Cicinho? Or Wakaso for Cani? Apart from Rossi and Borja, they are the two who have played the most minutes in the last week and a half. I think we need Rossi and Borja more. If we could get 2 or 3 goals up we might see them come off.
Endavant Villarreal!!

Hércules have only scored one goal away from home since beating Barcelona in their opening away game and that goal was 863 minutes ago in Almeria. Hércules take heart though as they believe that they are better than Levante and Malaga.

Unrelated to today’s match – it passed over and I didn’t even notice, but this site became 3 years old a couple of weeks ago. The reason it is still here is because there are a lot of you out there that read it – so, thanks!

I guess the Competition Committee didn’t believe “el Mister”—Garrido suspended from the bench area for two matches.

Looking forward to the match tonight.
Hope Garrido will put more trust in his players, from the stands:-)
Have hated the way that he ether goes totally offensive or defensive, and changes the tactic. I think he have to put more trust in the players, and substitute in the system, instead of substituting the system.
I think it is because he is inexperienced. It isn’t OK that he have been send off twice, when the team needs him!!
Garrido have to show that we did the right ting by extent his contract, by getting the team mentally in shape for the match tonight.
Common lets close the gap to 1point.
