Thread: Villarreal B vs. Xerez
Uncomfortable times for Sr. Roig. The A team is floundering under Juan Carlos Garrido, having gone pointless in the UEFA Champions League group stage. And Villarreal B, directed by José Molina, also teeters on the brink of the drop zone in league play.
This afternoon sees the visit of Xerez CD to the Ciudad Deportiva. The visitors' lone top-flight appearance was in 2009-10, when the azulinos finished dead last and promptly went back down. But they beat us in Andalucía, sending the A team to the bottom of the Primera and marking the beginning of the end for manager Ernesto Valverde. Ugly.
The solid strike rate of former Villarreal man José Mari--20 goals in 42 matches--could not save Xerez's manager, fired earlier this week. Can we avoid the "new manager" curse this time around? It won't be for unfamiliarity, as Molina played with José Mari at Atlético Madrid.
Molina's squad is almost at full strength:
Keepers: Diego Mariño, Jorge.
Defenders: Kiko Olivas, Joan Truyols, Toño, Carlos Tomás, Jaume Costa, Florian Lejeune, Pere Martínez.
Midfielders: Gonzalo Castellani, Lucas Porcar, Marcos Gullón, Iriome, Toribio, Pedro Vázquez, Llorente.
Strikers: Kike López, Airam Cabrera, Gerard Moreno.
Absent are Dorian Dervite (injury) and Joselu Moreno (called up). A back four of Pere, Lejeune, Kiko, and Costa might finally lend some stability to the team. And we'll find out what we have up front.
The match begins at 12 noon Eastern Time and airs on Nou Dos in Spain. Uncertain about streams. Endavant minisubmarino!

if anyone finds a stream, post it here
only one I have seen (and I’m not certain about it) is from bet365 which requires registration and I don’t want that.
Endavant Villarreal!!
Starting XI
Mariño and Gullón get the chop for last weeks debacle.
Jorge; Pere, Lejeune, Kiko, Jaume Costa; Llorente, Toribio, Lucas Porcar Castellani; Kike López,& Airam.
Pleased with the back four
So far, so good.

interesting
Molina is being brave to send a message when he needs his best players out there, don’t you think? Not sure Jorge in goal fills me with confidence, but here’s hoping he can prove me wrong.
Endavant Villarreal!!
Gooooool!
41 min 1-0 Lucas Porcar gola from well outside the penalty area that bounced twice before entering the net.
well, we'll take it however we can get it!!!
sounds as fluky as the second Napoli one
Endavant Villarreal!!
Joselu not in the squad
But tweeting from the stands, it seems.

yes, he's in the first team for tomorrow
so far Marca makes it sound as though we have been fairly dire
Endavant Villarreal!!
Gol
65 min 2-0 Another goal for Lucas Porcar after an error by keeper Doblas.
we'll take it!
sounds as though Castellani and Porcar have come to play, at least
Endavant Villarreal!!
trying to close down midfield, maybe?
it is an odd one. are we playing 4-2-3-1 now? Kike Lopez as a solo striker?
Endavant Villarreal!!
OK, that makes more sense
especially now Gerard has come on for him. A hat-trick would’ve been nice, but oh well

Porcar miss
74 min with only the keeper to beat Porcar puts the ball wrong side of the post.
We're in for a tense last ten minutes
Xerez make it 2-1 after a mistake by Jorge.
uh-oh.
told you I wasn’t so sure about him between the sticks.
Hold on, boys, make my prediction come true
Endavant Villarreal!!
Sub
89 min Kike Lopez replaced by Pedro Vasquez.
5 min additional time.
Red card for Josi Mari
2nd yellow for a bad challenge on Jorge
oooh. no goal for him then
well, that should waste some time. Now if we can finish it off…
Endavant Villarreal!!
Gol
95 min 3-0 Gerard after long clearance from Lejeune. Last kick of the game.
This is the kid
We heard so much about last season with the Juvenil. Great to see him get a chance and take advantage, even if a throw-away goal.
Soon he’ll be the best-known Gerard in Vila-real.

great! (3-1 of course)
I’m happy to see my prediction ruined that way!!
A big three points for sure. Alcoyano defeated Girona, the remainder of the bottom 8 drew, so we leapfrog Xerez to 17th, 3 points ahead of Huesca and one ahead of Xerez.
Endavant Villarreal!!
Levante 1 Sevilla 0
This is the thing. If we could just get our act together we could be right up among the European places, teams like Malaga, Sevilla, Athletic and Atleti are dropping so many points
Endavant Villarreal!!
Yes, but...
Winning away to Levante would require a huge leap of faith. First, they beat us 0-3 at El Madrigal. Second, we’ve lost to relegation candidates Racing and Granada away (without scoring).
So expecting a point at the Ciutat would be a bit much.
