Pérez, Rossi & Zapata in action
For whatever the reasons, the current Villarreal roster features only three full internationals. Hernán Pérez (Paraguay), Giuseppe Rossi (Italy), and Cristián Zapata (Colombia) are on duty, while the rest of the squad trains in Vila-real. Rossi will start tonight in Belgrade, according to manager Cesare Prandelli.
Also worthy of mention: Diego Mariño was with the Spanish U-21 side for its Euro 2013 qualifier yesterday against Croatia. And Jefferson Montero (Ecuador), on loan at Real Betis, has rekindled the interest of manager Reinaldo Rueda. A good sign. We may see him in action on Tuesday against the United States.
The schedule for our internationals (all times Eastern):
Friday, October 7: Serbia v. Italy (2:45 pm), Peru v. Paraguay (9:15 pm)
Tuesday, October 11: Italy v. Northern Ireland (2:45 pm), Bolivia v. Colombia (4 pm), Paraguay v. Uruguay (6:45 pm)
Consider this an open thread for your thoughts on the qualifiers. Boys, do us proud.

well, Villarreal does have another international player
Spanish U-17 women’s international Lucía Gómez. The Spanish squad defeated Bosnia, Azerbaijan and Ukraine by an aggregate of 20-0, so I’m pretty sure she’s good.
Endavant Villarreal!!
Early Rossi assist
On goal by Marchisio. Italians lead in 4’.

Serbia 1-1 Italy
Rossi played the full 90’. Thanks, Prandelli. You better rest him on Tuesday.

Osvaldo on the bench
Am I the only one who didn’t know he had been called up? Crazy. I guess they wanted to beat Argentina to the punch…

he had a pretty quiet second half
and now that Northern Ireland lost, Tuesday’s game is totally meaningless for everyone in this group, so I suspect he will get a day off

Off in 66'
With Peru ahead 1-0. Didn’t see too much from him, but Paraguay in general was second-best.

he did OK, but Peru were very impressive
don’t know if it was the 5000+ ft altitude or what, but in the second half Peru just overran Paraguay. And I have to say once Perez came off it was even worse—the tactical substitution to go with another guy up top produced nothing. Jefferson Farfan was MOTM for me. Perez was probably MOTM for Paraguay which isn’t saying much, but he at least battled hard and made a few good runs and a couple of decent attacking passes.
Roque Santa Cruz was invisible almost all evening
Endavant Villarreal!!
Second game for our internationals
Italy 3-0 N. Ireland: Rossi did not feature in a meaningless match.
Paraguay 1-1 Uruguay: Hernan Perez came on in 79’ and helped the home side rescue a point.
Bolivia 1-2 Colombia: Zapata did not leave the bench in his side’s first qualifying game.
