Cicinho replaces (un) Ángel
As has been rumored since Ángel's injury last week, Villarreal CF has reached an agreement with Italian side AS Roma for the loan of Brazilian defender Cícero João de Cezare, better known as "Cicinho", subject to a medical exam and formal documentation signing tomorrow. The player will be on loan to the Yellow Submarine for six months, with an option to purchase. Reports in the Italian media suggest that Roma is picking up a small portion of Cicinho's salary, though that has not been confirmed.
Cicinho is 30 years old and is familiar with the Spanish game, as he played for Real Madrid from 2005-07 before moving to Rome. He's fallen out of favor there as the manager Rainieri has gone for a larger, more physical backline; last year he was loaned to Sao Paolo and this year has seen little action for the Italians.
This seems like a fairly low-risk move. Cicinho offers more experience than our young defenders such as Mario and Joan Oriol, and with Ángel being out for the remainder of the season, it makes sense to add a veteran to help out. And if he impresses, we have an opportunity to acquire him permanently. For Cicinho, who plans to begin training with the team tomorrow, it's a chance to get some first-team playing time and get his career back on an upward track. We wish him success in the yellow shirt. Endavant!

Now that’s a headline, Allen :) . Let’s see what happens with Cicinho. It certainly is a low-risk move, but I think what we have in-house is better. Hope he proves me wrong and provides some stability on a backline that has conceded multiple goals in 3 straight matches.

yes, a golazo of a headline, much better than my feeble attempt!

Even if Marío were to fill the gap we would have still needed cover so this would appear a sensible move.
It’s been reported that Villarreal will pay 80% of the salary. Cicinho could also play further forward and provide cover for Cani, & Cazorla.
Juan Carlos will be out 3 to 4 weeks with the injury picked up last night.

Hernan Sanz has just reported Juan Carlos will be out for 6 weeks, and Cazorla will miss the Sevilla return leg as well as the Osasuna match (for which he was suspended anyhow). Not sure what his injury is, but he picked up several knocks last night and I was surprised he didn’t come off before the end.
So Cicinho may indeed get the chance to play midfield, though I would prefer to see Cani-Matilla-Bruno-Borja there w/Montero as an attacking option off the bench

Cazorla has been troubled by his hamstrings since before Christmas. I noticed last night he was using that special tape. He said it wasn’t bad but has no time to recover with so many matches.

A few questions have been raised as to why Montero appears to have fallen out of favour. In an interview on 20th December, in response to the question "Is more expected of Jefferson Montero" Garrido replied that he had to integrate to our customs, habits and also to get into the functioning of the team, furthermore gain in maturity and learn the standards of behaviour of a professional team. He possesses some tremendous physical and technical qualities.
Apparantly something happened that did not please Garrido when he was last on international duty with Ecuador. If you remember he was late returning to Villarreal on that occasion.

oh is THAT what it was. Early in the match he was tackled and when he got up there was some pink bandage or whatever hanging loose below his shorts. It looked quite odd!

Pleased with this signing, it was only a few weeks ago that I was hoping for a Brazilian fullback, Cicinho might not have the pace of his youth but hopefully his positional intelligence will come to the fore. Hopefully he will balance the side out a bit.

let’s not make it worse than it is…i get 7 too….
…Cazorla presumably back for the Real Sociedad match, same for Marchena. Senna who knows, Nilmar maybe for Napoli in mid Feb which would be about right for Juan Carlos too. Angel of course is out for season. Bruno may or may not play this weekend, but if not will probably be OK for Sevilla.

Cicinho and Bruno are in the squad for Osasuna. All those available less the SIX injured.

This is the team I would like to see against osasuna, another option is replacing matilla with valero & bringing montero in on the wing, whatever happens just dont start catala, he’s nothing more than a segunda division player!!!
Diego López
Cicinho Musacchio Gonzalo Capdevila
Matilla Bruno
Cani Borja Valero
Rossi Marco Ruben

I think that this is very likely except that Mario would start instead of Cicinho. The latter could get some minutes as a substitute.

rumor is Chori Castro will be on the move from mallorca, as they still owe the uruguayan team half of his transfer fee. But sadly rumors connect him with Valencia, not Villarreal. Too bad I think he would be a good signing for us

also disappointing to see that Valencia (in spite of huge debt, being unable to finish new stadium, etc.) appears to be planning big spending this offseason—Gramiero from Lorient one example

Rumored in England, now reported by as:
http://www.as.com/futbol/articulo/chelsea-pretende-godin/20110114dasdasftb_21/Tes
I guess we sold Godin at the right time…though it looks like quite a profit for Atleti if these numbers are right (I thought the 7mil was for 50% of Godin’s rights, presumably 18mil is for 100%). Does anyone know if Villarreal negotiated some sort of sell-on clause?
