Highlights: Villarreal 1-4 Barcelona, Elche 2-3 Villarreal B
1-4 is a bit misleading: Nilmar squandered two golden opportunities before Messi opened the scoring, and these highlights did not show another Valdes error that we failed to convert on. Bad luck on Barca's first goal, as Godin made a great block but the ball ricocheted past Diego Lopez. Some questions about Diego Lopez's positioning on Xavi's free kick, though, along with horrific defending by Gonzalo on Bojan's tally.
Wonder if Llorente had a knock, as Garrido spoke of playing the same formation in both halves (before Joseba entered as a substitute). But no harm done in the standings: Getafe drew and Athletic lost. So we remain in 6th place with 3 rounds to go.
Wonderful win for the B team against a promotion candidate. Elche fought back after going two goals and a man down, but Jefferson Montero immediately scored his brace to seal the result. For that, he got a slap in the face from an Elche player. Stay classy.
Some news and notes:
- Llorente predicted Athletic would beat Mallorca. Good thing he was wrong.
- And now we find out that Llorente, not Busquets, received a yellow card late in Saturday's match. Initially it seemed that Busquets received a second yellow and then was substituted off. Maletines, anyone? But we would have lost anyhow.
- Capdevila will miss Tuesday's game in Almeria due to his 5th yellow card of the season. 6 other players (Cani, Gonzalo, Ibagaza, Javi Venta, Marcano, and Pires) are one yellow away from suspension.
- From the club website: recaps of the Barcelona and Elche matches.

Sad match, because scoreline was injust. GolTV sucks, that a$$ worships Marca &
Real Madid.
Senna should have started over Ibagaza. Needed more beef in midfiled vs Barca.
Nilmar should have scored on Rossi 2nd pass on empty Goal or either done better on Cani pass or passed to Rossi who was solo in front of goal.
If Villarreal go up 1-0, this would have been a different game.
Barca very lucky on Messi goal and on FK Lopez positioning was terrible.
Oh well, need to beat Almeria
IMO Liga have made a pact to down Villarreal this season.
Pathetic if you ask me. Spain could use a successful small town club.

Villarreal’s Javi Venta On Deportivo La Coruna Radar – Report?
by jackson on May 3, 2010 5:28 PM CEST reply actions
Manuel Pablo has been a fixture at right back for Deportivo and he’s around the same age as Javi Venta. I would have thought Sporting , if they stay up, would be more likely as he’s from Asturias.

What a deception. Once again Garrido made the wrong call on formation and players before a big game. The expectation was that Barcelona would be affected by their exit midweek from the Champions League. In fact it was they who were the faster, sharper and more aggressive team. In the first half Villarreal hardly had possession of the ball and when they did they were pressured in to losing it. Two, if not all three, of the first half goals came as a result of the Villarreal midfield being robbed of the ball. Not one of the starting eleven enhanced their reputation on Saturday. Diego Lopez least of all, on other occasions we have seen him make saves in similar situations. Nilmar could have done but missed two easy chances. If Villarreal believe that they are good enough for the Champions League they shouldn’t be losing matches 4-1 at home.

@kenez
wow, y so negative?
will nick approve this,?
u sure u want 2 make fun his favorite player, da nilmar?
b careful, u may get called names or told 2 get out.
since u bring it up, i agree da midfield was a no show. but what’s new?
& da 451 w/g.rossi as CF was stupid in da 1st half. should b 442 or 433
if nilmar put da ball on g.rossi or cani pass maybe maybe da garido formation of 451 would have worked.
nilmar should have rolled 2 da ball 2 unmakred g.rossi on da cani pass, wat selfish act there.

da garido is no mourhino, told u guys/gals he’s inexperienced, but i think he will get better w/time.
problem is da ibagaza form is up-down & da cazorla is still recovery stage

Kenez :) thanks for the laugh.
Garrido is good coach and quick learner, but his inexperience shows up. You can’t put a slow Ibagaza vs. technical fast moving Barca, especially with Cazorla still finidng his fitness and form.
This game called for Senna, because he provides the grit and better hodling capabilties vs
a technical team.
Too bad Eguren was shipped out, becasue sometimes with teams like Barca you need 2 strong Central Midfielders .
By the way, you are kidding yourself if you thin k Villarreal Midfield is CL material, especially with Cazorla not up to form and Senna and Ibagaza on the wane.
Cani is gopd player, but he never shows up for Big Games
Oh well, live in learn

As well as Capdevilla being absent through suspension Gonzalo has fallen victum to flu. As a result Kiko is recalled for the first time since his ealry exit at the Mestella. Garrido will give Marcano a chance as replacement for Capdevilla
The full squad is:
Keepers: Diego López & Xavi Oliva.
Defenders: Ángel, Godin, Mateo Musacchio, Kiko, Marcano & Javi Venta.
Midfield: Marcos Senna, Bruno, Cani, Santi Cazorla, Ibagaza, Pires & David Fuster.
Forwards: Nilmar, Llorente & Rossi.

Gaonzalo is good defender, but he struggles against pacey forwards.

@aquafina ibagaza is teh best creative player we got, he was not there to do teh dirty job but to start moves and did u see him beating players and getting teh moves. teh guys is one of teh most underrated players ever.
with cazorla under performing we needed ibagaza.
