Villarreal Signs Zizzou Out of Retirement!!
Zinedine Zidane has come out of retirement to sign a one-year deal with Villarreal. There had been rumors about him coming back to Madrid, or going to Corinthians, but he decided he wanted a more relaxed lifestyle while taking on a real challenge in the Champions League and La Liga. Wow. That was unexpected. Thoughts? Who does he replace in the midfield? At 36, do you think he still has the legs to get any significant playing time? Do you think that jokester Capdevila will say something about his sister and get head-butted into oblivion?

I just realized how much better this could have been if I said that Villarreal also signed Marco Materazzi, as had been rumored a year or so ago.

Nihat 6 – Just like in the Bernabeu, the Villarreal striker could have done so much more given his speed and technique going forward.
Capdevila 6 – Always influential on the left hand side and was able to play more defensively too, given Riera’s role down the flank.
Senna 6 – Held his ground, but he did not have one of his best games in a Spain shirt and was the right choice to be the first change by Del Bosque.
Cazorla 6 – Added something going forward, but did not play a central role in the win despite having fresh legs.

If you should be in a Spanish-speaking country and play a joke on your friends and follow that up with a shout of “¡Tontos de abril!” chances are you’ll get nothing but blank stares as a reaction. The minor U.S. holiday of April Fools’ Day is little known in Spain and Latin America, but there a rough equivalent, el Día de los Santos Inocentes, observed on Dec. 28.
