And We're Back
Well, not much (other than rumors galore regarding Senna and Lopez to Manchester City) happened over the Christmas break. The team returns tomorrow after a solid 8 day layoff. Hopefully the break will be what they need to break this awful slump and regain a winning mentality. One thing is for sure - plenty of drama will be involved as the team gets ready to face the soap opera known as Real Madrid.

The story today is that Pires, Venta, Fuentes, Cygan y Viera are all out of contract at the end of this season and as a consequence will from the 1st Jan be free to negotiate with any club.
Who would you keep?

I will only let 1 of the central defender go, both Pires, Javi Venta and Viera can still contribute the team.
Considering the central defenders’ few playing time and declining ability due to the aging problem, they should be released, but not for both of them in short term so that Pellegrini can have more time to search for alternatives.

I would keep Pires, but if the right offer came by, the others I would let go – sometimes there needs to be an impetus for change. I like Venta a lot, but he has lost a step over the last year, and Angel is clearly his superior at this point. And with Viera, I feel that it would not be difficult to pick up a keeper with his skill to back up Lopez. As to Cygan and Fuentes, need senior leadership, but we need youth and energy just as much.
